VOLUME I: Translator's Preface; Introduction; Part I: The Idea of Artistic Beauty, or the Ideal; Part II: Development of the Ideal into the Particular Forms of Art; Section I: The Symbolic Form of Art; Section II: The Classical Form of Art; Section III: The Romantic Form of Art.
Synopsis
In his Aesthetics Hegel gives full expression to his seminal theory of art. He surveys the history of art from ancient India, Egypt, and Greece through to the Romantic movement of his own time, criticizes major works, and probes their meaning and significance; his rich array of examples gives broad scope for his judgement and makes vivid his exposition of his theory. The substantial Introduction is Hegel's best exposition of his general philosophy of art, and provides the ideal way into his Aesthetics. In Part I he considers the general nature of art: he distinguishes art, as a spiritual experience, from religion and philosophy; he discusses the beauty of art and differentiates it from the beauty of nature; and he examines artistic genius and originality. Part II provides a sort of history of art, divded into three periods called Symbolic (India, Persia, Egypt), Classical (Greece), and Romantic (medieval and post-medieval up to the end of the eighteenth century). Part III deals individually with architecture, scuplture, painting, music, and literature., This is the first of two volumes of the only English edition of Hegel's Aesthetics, in which he gives full expression to his seminal theory of art. Better than advertised: this book is in pristine condition. It shipped quickly, was priced fairly, and was well packed in a padded mailer so that it would survive the trip. All around a very good value, and this is a seller I'd be happy to buy from again.

Most importantly, the book condition was as specified. Many thanks for that. Also, the book was delivered promptly from the USA to the UK. Also, the price was reasonable for an out-of-print book. However, one point of constructive criticism: the packaging could have been much better, in order to better protect the book in transit. The book was sent in a bubble-wrap mailer only, with no cardboard to give the package greater strength. Thank you very much for any consideration of my feedback.

Shipping was fast. This book arrived sooner than the expected delivery date. The book is exactly as described. The value and price of the book is great. I definitely will order more books from this seller. The packaging was sealed. If you are looking for used books, I recommend buying from this seller. The books are in good condition.
