Sometimes the interface between the spade and the wire or spade and chassis are found to be on their last legs, the wire or spade about to break. Removing the old one for reuse, in the case of the wire about to break, is nigh on impossible. The original turned brass "plugs" by Triang had the same problem. All part of the challenge to keep the trains running.
