It's supposed to slide back and forth but it does not move at all on either of the 2 lights I received. I would have liked that the switch would work. I have an almost exact duplicate of this item bought many, many years ago and the switch on that does work. Still, light is useful to me. I have it plugged in to a power strip with a USB phone charger and use it to light my desktop keyboard.
