Of Clovis and Clotilde we especially know the images of Épinal of the episode of the vase of Soissons or the baptism of the Frankish king in Reims. Beyond these collective representations, Marie-Céline Isaïa, specialist in the history of the High Middle Ages and lecturer at the Faculty of Letters and Civilizations at the University of Lyon 3, invites us to rediscover these historical figures. The historian engages in a meticulous study of contemporary and subsequent sources to the period and thus paints the portrait of a Frankish king, Clovis and Queen Clotilde, beyond a complex society whose links with the ancient world persist, but which is moving towards medieval society. Understanding this in-between situation then becomes the necessary condition for apprehending the Merovingians, this dynasty of Franks who became the champions of Nicean Catholicism and forged between the monarchy and the Church this unbreakable bond which lasted more than a thousand years.

In summary, probably my best vinyl purchasing experience so far. Many many thanks
