Today is Ava's birthday, but where are all of her friends? Ava is excited to celebrate her third birthday with her friends. She swims to the top of the water and calls for her friend Goby. He does not answer. She swims to the side of the coral reef and calls to Seahorse. Seahorse does not answer either. She swims to the bottom to look for Crab and to the sandcastle to look for Starfish, but she cannot find anybody. Ava is sad, but not for long! Goby and Seahorse swim out of the coral reef. Crab crawls out of the sand. Starfish climbs off of a rock. They all yell "Surprise!" and join together to enjoy seaweed birthday cake, birthday gifts, and games. Ava has a great birthday. This book is part of the purple level of the "Read-it! Readers" series and utilizes high frequency words and simple language patterns to present basic topics. Young children are sure to love the vibrant pictures and will relate easily to the birthday topic. At the end of the book, the author offers a list of other books in the purple level of the "Read-it! The book was in the condition described other than it was very dirty/dusty, with a coffee stain on the cover. At the very least, I would expect the book to have been wiped down before shipping to the customer.
