Reviews
"The major strengths of this book are a comprehensive compilation of chapters that address the developing practice of parish nursing; a useful guide that includes tools, experiences, and some research findings for the beginning, as well as the experienced parish nurse; chapters that focus on models of practice and diversity in the practice setting; and innovations that are unique to this specialty area. . . . I will purchase this book and request that our library order it. I will adopt it for my elective course in parish nursing and recommend it to students, faculty, and others who consult with me about this practice." -- Ruth Ann B. Synopsis
Providing an overview of the practice of par ish nursing, this book covers a variety of perspectives on f aith community nursing roles and practice. It discusses diff erent settings such as urban and rural, and examines practic e and educational issues. ', Parish Nursing is a handbook on health promotion and care within faith communities. Sections of the book address the context for parish or congregational nursing; models, roles, and settings for practice; issues for parish nursing practice; the parish nurses collaboration with other health team and spiritual care professionals; and international perspectives of parish nursing. While the project had its initial roots in the Lutheran General Care System, it has been written so that nurses of all faiths should find it an extremely useful shelf reference or advanced-level text. Parish Nursing will be of interest to scholars, students, and advanced practitioners in community and public health nursing, psychiatric/mental health nursing, and primary care nursing. Originally published as Parish Nursing: The Developing Practice., Published in its first edition by the International Parish Nurse Resource Centre, Parish Nursing provides a variety of perspectives of faith community nursing roles and practice. Parish Nursing should find interested readers among scholars, students, and advanced practitioners in community and public health nursing. While the book had its initial roots in the Lutheran General Care System, it is a useful reference for nurses of all faiths.
