By providing support for analog equipment, this unit offers a cost-effective solution in maximizing your present investments. As part of the Cisco legacy telephone adaptor series of standards-based communication hardware, this Cisco ATA 186 enables true and advanced voice-over-IP (VoIP) terminations to homes and corporate environments. This device is ideal for clients who require a connection to small business settings, enterprise networks, or VoIP managed voice services and local services market. Upgrading to unified communications paves the way for the convergence of your traditional phone system and IP system into a unified integrated information environment. This Cisco model comes with two voice ports that provide support for a series of legacy touchtone phones. These voice ports serve as phone jacks for VoIP. Simply connect your legacy phone to one of these ports and transmit voice and other multimedia media content online. You are also able to attach a fax machine to the VoIP network for fax transmissions of up to 14.4 kilobits per second. Plus, this adapter lets you connect to a 10BaseT hub or switch through its single Ethernet port. Designed for fast and easy deployment, this Cisco ATA offers you a wide array of flexible setup and provisional options. These include automatic assignment of an IP address or routing unit, auto-provisioning with trivial file transfer protocol (TFTP) servers, touchtone keypad setup with voice prompt, and remote upgrades. This unit also provides support for multiprotocols, including session initiation protocol (SIP) and skinny client control protocol (SCCP). SIP facilitates interoperability and deployment flexibility within your system. Automatically set for dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), easily manage, monitor, and troubleshoot your system via a web-based configuration interface. With its advanced pre-processing methods to improve full-duplex voice compression, voice quality is not compromised with the Cisco ATA 186. Expect less background noise and echo when making calls with the help of the adapter’s high performance line-echo cancellation feature. Comfort noise generation and voice activity detection are also integrated to save bandwidth by transmitting voice and not silence. Packet losses, which lead to jitter artifacts, are also minimized through a dynamic network monitoring protocol. This ensures that a crisp, natural-sounding voice is delivered over the to the other end. The ATA 186 comes with enhanced security measures to protect your networking infrastructure. Install a password on the adapter to guard against unauthorized access. When logging on to the administration panel, an asterisk stands for each character of your password, instead of it being displayed in readable text for added security. The ATA also enables RC4 encryption for TFTP configuration profiles. With the adapter’s compact and lightweight design, it easily fits into any office setup.
