The seller was helpful and offered a refund but for my intended purpose the fan will do as is. It might have been more of an issue if it was being used to clear potentially combustible vapours from a bilge as the fan is intended.

They apologised and sent a new one with no quibble. When it arrived it looks perfect for camping with a good size area for draining and a designated area for cups, just as shown in the picture on line and it packs to about 1cm deep.
