    Bandai’s Final Fantasy WonderSwan Color handheld gaming console included releases of three popular Final Fantasy versions, including Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy IV. The Final Fantasy series has remained popular with console releases on the NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Playstation 2, PSP, Nintendo DS and 3DS and Xbox 360. It has also appeared on PC and MAC computers, as well as a variety of smartphone platforms. The WonderSwan Color features a 16-bit central processing unit and a longer battery life than the Nintendo Game Boy Color. Additionally, the WonderSwan Color offers backward compatibility with original WonderSwan titles. Like many handhelds of the time, the games were cartridge-based and easily interchangeable for ease of gameplay. The WonderSwan Color was followed up by the WonderSwan Crystal. Over time, the WonderSwan line sold a total of 3.5 million units and included multiple colored case options, but eventually lost all competitive advantage in the handled gaming market. The Final Fantasy series is an RPG featuring a variety of playable characters throughout the story. The majority of the adventure is based around a team of four player-controlled characters and traditionally featured turn-based combat in the earlier iterations. The first Final Fantasy was released in 1987, with additional releases scheduled into 2017. Bandai was founded in 1950 by Naoharu Yamashina, and began as a manufacturer of toys and models. The company gained popularity after releasing toys related to popular anime characters including those from Tetsuwan Atomu in 1963. In the 1970s, the company began producing LCD games for consoles. Bandai asked Gunpei Yokoi to create a handheld. Though he was involved in the design, Yokoi past away before the handheld’s release.
