Reviews
From the reviews of the first edition:"This excellent book is the most complete development of cosmic ray astrophysics theory published. It is aimed at current researchers and commencing postgraduate students. … One of the great benefits of this book is the explicit description of all the assumptions that are made and the limitations they imply on interpretations from the theory. This makes the book particularly valuable for postgraduate students and established researchers starting in the field." (M.L. Duldig, The Physicist, Vol.39 (3), 2002), From the reviews of the first edition: "This excellent book is the most complete development of cosmic ray astrophysics theory published. Synopsis
Providing an exhaustive account of the origin and dynamics of cosmic rays, this volume is divided into three parts. First, it gives an up-to-date summary of the observational data, then deals with the kinetic description of cosmic ray plasma. The underlying diffusion-convection transport equation, which governs the coupling between cosmic rays and the background plasma, is derived and analyzed in detail. In the third part, several applications of the solutions of the transport equation are presented and how key observations in cosmic ray physics can be accounted for is demonstrated. While primarily of interest to scientists working at the forefront of research, the very careful derivations and explanations make this a suitable introduction for graduates., This book is based on aseries of lectures that were given at the universities of Bonn and Bochum to undergraduate and graduate students from the de partments of physics and astronomy. The book is intended as an introduction to the physics and astrophysics of cosmic rays. I am grateful to many colleagues, friends and students for their sup port and encouragement. I am especially grateful to the undergraduate and graduate students for whom I have been thesis advisor: their work appears throughout these pages. The list includes Ulrich Achatz, Markus Böttcher, Andre Crusius-Wätzel, Wolfgang Dröge, Rüciiger Dung, Uwe Jaekel, Mein hard Kneller, Harald Lesch, Hartmut Mause, Martin Pohl, Olaf Stawicki, Adriane Steinacker, Jürgen Steinacker and Ralf WeyeI'. Moreover, I want to thank Rainer Beck, Elly Berkhujsen, Ed Churchwell, Karl Mannheim, Wolfgang Reich, Manfred Simon alld Richard Wielebinski for carefully reading parts of the manuscript and for their valuable sugges tions. I especially wish to thank lan Lerche for his meticulous reading of the whole book and valuable comments, corrections and suggestions to improve the presentation. Needless to say, all remaining errors are my own., In the first part, the book gives an up-to-date summary of the observational data. - r***7 (70)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufThis item was marketed as “very good”, yet some of the pop ups are ripped or not functioning. I paid a pretty high price for an item that was in “acceptable” condition at best for what it is meant to be.
