This Gatecrasher installment has its moments but ends up diluting these better tracks with its need to cram as many songs as possible onto each of the two CDs, leaving the songs far too short for a mix album of this sort; with 18 songs per disc, few songs pass the five minute mark. This may seem like a minute issue, but when the album is as spotty as Wet, it's nice to enjoy the better songs when they come. This brings to mind the other problematic issue surrounding the album's inconsistencies; when Gatecrasher prints claims on the CD, stating "Immerse yourself in the greatest dance album of the summer," there is little doubting the fact that they are taking the populist aim -- and there's little denying that they try to include something for everyone here. The first disc stands out as the better of the two, with its emphasis on the more melodic side of trance rather than the relentlessly peaking second disc. Vocal tracks such as Lustral's "Everytime" and Silhouette's "Can't Wait to Fall in Love" may reek of gushy sentiment and the knee-deep synth hooks of Lost Tribe's "Gamemaster" and the Thrillseekers' "Synaesthesia" don't practice the art of nuance by any means, but their melodies are sugary enough to leave a lasting impression without gagging you with excessiveness. Unfortunately, a lot of mediocre songs fill in the gaps, and the second disc just gets to pseudo-climatic for its own good, ruining an otherwise respectable first disc. ~ Jason Birchmeier
