Get that classic 1980s howl with a single compact guitar pedal. The Dunlop MXR M152 Micro Flanger guitar effect pedal offers a variety of flange effects, including the echoing crunch of your favorite hair metal bands and the outer space twang of retro pop songs. The Micro Flanger is smaller than many guitar pedals, so you can enjoy a great selection of flange effects without crowding your stage. Flanger pedals use analog or digital technology to offer a very distinctive sound. They delay one of the sound signals coming out of your amp very slightly and then slowly change that signal. The altered signal and the regular signal play simultaneously to create a unique harmonic effect. The delay on the altered signal is very small, so it is not noticeable to the human ear. MXR based the M152 Micro Flanger on its popular M117R model, which was incredibly popular in funk recordings in the 1970s. The first Micro Flanger pedal was released in the 1980s and made its mark on the music of the decade. The modern version of this analog guitar pedal is based on this ’80s classic. The Bucket Brigade analog electronic components give the pedal the same raw, warm tone as the original pedals. The MXR Micro Flanger pedal features several controls to let you adjust your sound. The speed knob is labeled “Rate” and gives you control over the cycling rate of the pedal. Slow speeds create a slight sweeping sound, whereas turning up the rate adds an echo to your tone. You can adjust the pedal’s intensity with the regeneration knob, which is labeled “Regen” and is located at the top right-hand side of the pedal. Turning up the intensity emphasizes the ups and downs in the flanging effect, creating that distinctive warbling tone. Turn the pedal on and off with the foot button at the base of the pedal. When the pedal is in bypass mode, the LED light will not light up, and your guitar’s audio will create a clean sound through the amp. When the foot switch is on, the LED light lights up, and your flanging effect plays through the amp. Power your MXR Micro Flanger with a 9-Volt battery, or plug in an AC power supply such as the Dunlop DC810DC. The MXR Micro Flanger pedal is compatible with a wide variety of guitars, gear, and accessories. Plug the input into guitars with a standard 1/4-inch patch cord. You can use the pedal with almost all electric guitars and most acoustic guitars outfitted with pickups. You can also use the pedal to add new depths to your bass guitar sound. When paired with a bass, the pedal takes on a surreal tone that almost sounds computerized. Use the output connection to plug the pedal into amps or an effects chain. If you want to combine the MXR Micro Flanger pedal with other effects in a chain, place it later in the chain behind compressors, equalizers, distortion, or fuzz pedals and in front of effects such as tremolo and reverb. Before plugging the pedal into other gear and accessories, check to make sure the other amps or pedals include compatible inputs and outputs.
