Item is about the size of a medium dinner plate. Comes in two pieces. The main plate part, and a flat piece that the plate attaches to. Took literally 3 seconds to put together. Since this is made out of wood, I recommend a soft white, flame type, LED battery tea light. I know everyone has there own preference, but I just believe a real fire with wood go to well together. 5 stars
