With a high-speed 8 MB cache buffer size, 2.99 millisecond (nominal) average latency, and a lightning fast 10,000 RPM SCSI motor, you’ll enjoy faster speeds and increased battery life. You can expect a respectable external data transfer rate of 150 MB per second. Western Digital also provides you with rugged Enterprise-class mechanics in the Raptor HDD series drives. To start, they build sturdy hardware components, such as using a rigid stainless steel top, which makes it about 1.5 times more durable than average drives. They have also implemented the industry-leading ShockGuard technology, which will protect the drive’s mechanics and platter surfaces from impact vibration. For additional non-operational shock tolerance, the DuraStep Ramp feature secures the recording heads away from the disk during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off.
