Reviews
"Even a novice will find find some technique or some different manner in approaching a difficult area and resolve the problem. Whether it be weathering or simply adding stowage, there is a lot which can be learned from this book. Variety, as someone once said, is the spice of life. Zaloga's new book is full of a variety of interesting projects from the more 'conventional' to the extremely unusual - the U.S. Firefly in U.S. service is a welcome 1/48th scale project." -Jim Rae, Armorama(October 2007) "It goes without saying that all the models/dioramas in the book look great. This book answers some of those 'how'd he do that?' questions, as well as suggestions on how to improve one's own projects. Mr. Zaloga's talent for writing provides expert advice and shows readers how to get the most out of their projects... I'd recommend this book to any armor enthusiast." - Pascal Zandt,International Plastic Modeler's Society(February 2008) "Combining masterful technique, a remarkably keen intellect and the eye of a true artist... [Steven Zaloga] thoroughly and concisely explains his paint and weathering techniques... Aside from exstensive and easily-understood text, this book is chock-full of excellent, step-by-step full-color photographs that, with their accompanying captions, provide as complete a reference as any one could wish for." -Frank De Sisto,missing-lynx.com "All of the articles are superbly done with nice color photos showing how the builder went from base kit and a pile of aftermarket to the end product. It is full of informative hints and tips and how-to pieces that can be used by modelers of just about any genre in addition to armor builders... Overall, it is another fine addition to the Osprey Modelling series and is something that modelers of all interest levels will find useful." -Scott Van Aken,modelingmadness.com(November 2007), "Osprey's Modelling series shows how advanced modelers use their knowledge, skills and expertise to create incredibly and correctly detailed models of all sorts... Each book discusses how a variety of model kits are used to make authentic looking WWII vehicles... If you are looking for books that provide the high detailing to take your miniatures to the next level, you should check these books out." -- Michael Koznarsky, Historical Miniature Gamer (Issue 11) "It goes without saying that all the models/dioramas in the book look great. Synopsis
The Sherman tank was the principal US and Allied tank of World War II - more Shermans were built than all German tanks combined. Not only were large numbers of Shermans manufactured, but a large number of variants emerged, powered by different types of engines and with different types of hulls, turrets and other details, making it an ideal subject for any modeller. Steven J Zaloga, an expert armor modeller, takes on the Sherman tank in this book, providing a guide to four variants across a range of skill levels. Used in every theater in which the Allies operated, the Sherman employed differing camouflage and was affected by a variety of different weathering and color schemes and weathering techniques which are examined and illustrated with lavish full color step-by-step photographs.
