Synopsis
What makes this book unique, is the places and countries where these stories take place. A pilot or person with limited knowledge of planes will enjoy this the most. For a person not familiar with the intricate working of an airplane, I give a limited description with the express purpose of presenting a cursory overview of certain flight instruments, flight controls and pilots actions in critical situations. All the stories are true and wherever possible, with their permission, I provide the name or names of persons that were involved with few obvious exceptions. It is not my intent to embarrass or malign anyone, here again with obvious exceptions. I have received lots of help from fellow pilots and friends whom I want to thank., "Captain Ed" (Edwin Armbruster) lived a fascinating life as he flew thousands of hours over the jungles of Panama and the Caribbean Sea in single engine planes. Over seven hundred students called him their instructor as he piloted them from the Atlantic to the Pacific, over and along the Panama Canal, through Panama, Central and South America. Beginning with the halcyon days of Canal Zone life and the navigating more troubled times as the drug wars escalated, adventure call on every page. As exciting and spell-binding tropical background is beautiful, "Capt Ed" regales and inspires with his stories of crashes and near misses, student antics, hair-raising escapes and unusual friendships, all as the glory days of the Panama Canal and Canal Zone life slowly faded into memory. This book soars with adventure. Book jacket., The main focus of my book is the many events I encountered after I learning to fly in Panama 60+ years ago. However, none of this could have happened had it not been for the strange circumstances which took me and my family to Panama or rather the little known place called the "Canal Zone" in Central America in 1963. My first book was published June 23, 2014. This is a revision of that book but cut in half with changes made, pictures and new chapters added. The second half of the book or "Part 2" will also contain changes with additional chapters and be published in the near future.
