The right technology can help you adapt and network. The Allen-Bradley 1794-ASB (1794-ASB) Adapter Module is one such component. It offers both remote I/O wiring connections and 24V DC power wiring connections. It has a 24V DC power supply with an 8-input output module capacity. Its network uses a universal remote FLEX I/O where the module capacity is 8. This adapter module has a communication rate of 57.6 Kbps, 115.2 Kbps, and 230.4 Kbps. This adapter module nicely interfaces with FLEX I/O modules and the FLEX I/O scanner port and spans across your network. It contains a built-in power supply that converts 24VDC to 5VDC. This allows the backplane to power FLEX I/O modules. One of the Allen Bradley 1794-ASB adapters can communicate with up to 8 FLEX I/O modules.The Allen-Bradley input-output device has diagnostic indicators and a reset button. The green and red lights let you know if the unit is operating normally or if there is a problem. Green lights indicate whether the unit is on and whether it is active. Red lights indicate whether there is a fault with the device or a local fault. A push of the reset button will reset the unit when there is a communication error taking place. There is also a processor restart lockout switch that can be flipped in order to control whether errors are cleared automatically.The unit has address/group switch assemblies that users can access through a flip-up door. These switches are for starting I/O group, I/O rack number, and hold inputs. Mode 0, mode 1, mode 2, mode 3, and mode 4 have mode switches. There are also switches for communication rate, rack fault, and processor restart lockout. Finally, there is a hold last state switch. To change the current settings, users will flip the appropriate switches, then cycle power to the unit. This process is easy for a new user to pick up.There are five modes of address that are compatible with this Allen Bradley remote RIO adapter unit. These include standard, compact, and complementary modes. Additionally, the unit is compatible with standard-32 and complementary-32. Standard and standard-32 are used when you need full functionality from your FLEX input-output module. Compact, complementary, and complementary-32 are used when you do not need this full functionality. In each mode, there is a different level of information that the processor receives. The unit’s multiple input and output specifications allow you to fit the product to your application.This unit from Allen-Bradley, a division of Rockwell Automation, mounts on a DIN rail. DIN rail installation can take place before putting in terminal base units. The 1794-ASB can also join an existing system or replace a previous adapter. Users can also mount the adapter to a wall or a panel. A notch helps hold the unit securely to the terminal base unit to help ensure flawless operation. To work, this unit requires an external power supply. That supply must give a 450mA electrical current at 24 volts DC. If other modules are using the same supply, the amounts required for both modules must be added together. The Allen Bradley unit works with PLC 3 and 5 series processors.
