Product Information

Forgotten Realms: The Archives -- Collection Two features a total of seven games: Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades, Pools of Darkness, Gateway to the Savage Frontier, Treasures of the Savage Frontier, and Hillsfar.

The first four games are known as The Forgotten Realms Epic. Players can use the same party of characters throughout all four games. Each party can include six characters created by the player and two non-player characters. Character races available are dwarf, gnome, half-elf, elf, human, and halfling. Initial character classes featured are cleric, fighter, magic-user, and thief. Curse of the Azure Bonds introduces rangers and paladins. Multi-class and dual-class characters are possible as well.

The Forgotten Realms Epic is viewed from a first-person perspective when moving through cities or buildings. When outdoors an icon represents the party as it moves through the wilderness. If combat occurs the screen zooms in on the location and features an icon for each character and monster. During the turn-based battles players move their characters around the battlefield and attack the monsters. The icons are animated and take swings at the monsters, whether they hit or not is based on the character's abilities.

Gateway to the Savage Frontier and Treasures of the Savage Frontier are set up in the same fashion as The Forgotten Realms Epic. Movement and combat work in the exact same way. Character classes and races are also the same. New to the series is weather that impacts combat and the ability for characters to have romances. Those characters that are in love will fight better too.

Hillsfar is a stand alone action role-playing game. Characters can be sent from Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds to Hillsfar but only sent from Hillsfar to Curse of the Azure Bonds. Your character's class will represent the quests that you receive. Classes include thief, fighter, cleric, and magic-user. These classes represent which guild you go to and therefore which quests you are given. Embarking on quests will require you to leave the city and travel across the Elven Court. When traveling, the game is viewed from the side where you are riding a horse that must be commanded to jump at precise moments.

Aside from the classes all characters can visit the arena and the target range. At the arena a character can battle in an attempt to earn fame, honor, and wealth. During arena sequences the game is viewed from a third-person perspective. Accurate shooting at the target range will result in being awarded prizes. Here the game is viewed from a first-person perspective. Characters can also pick locks in order to break into houses and stores to steal treasure and items while racing against a time limit. When exploring buildings the action is viewed from overhead.

A 420-page manual is included that covers every game included in all of the three archive collections. The manual includes the journals that came with the original games. Inside the journals users can find a game's storyline, character race and class descriptions, journal entries, and tables that contain information on level advances, weapons, and spells.
