Reviews
No one has exposed the oppressive medicalization of human conflict and politicization of medicine as thoroughly and radically as Thomas Szasz. With this superb collection, the essence of Szasz's case against the Therapeutic State is now accessible to everyone. Liberty and autonomy have their most able defender in Thomas Szasz., It takes an iconoclast with temerity and acumen to illuminate how unexamined myths and metaphors insidiously determine prevailing norms--norms considered unassailable and sacrosanct by the established medical/legal system. For decades, Thomas Szasz has publicly challenged the excesses that obscure reason. The Medicalization of Everyday Life offers a no-nonsense perspective on contemporary dogma. Required reading for all professionals in health care fields, and all those who are subject to their unwitting prejudices.

Synopsis
This collection of impassioned essays, published between 1973 and 2006, chronicles Thomas Szasz's long campaign against the orthodoxies of ?pharmacracy,? that is, the alliance of medicine and the state. From ?Diagnoses Are Not Diseases? to ?The Existential Identity Thief,? ?Fatal Temptation,? and ?Killing as Therapy,? the book delves into the complex evolution of medicalization, concluding with ?Pharmacracy: The New Despotism.? In practice, society must draw a line between what counts as medical practice and what does not. Where it draws that line goes far in defining the kinds of laws its citizens live under, the kinds of medical care they receive, and the kinds of lives they are allowed to live., This collection of impassioned essays, published between 1973 and 2006, chronicles Thomas Szasz's long campaign against the orthodoxies of "pharmacracy," that is, the alliance of medicine and the state. The listing was for a hardcover version of this book; however, I received a paperback. The Seller replied quickly to my question about this issue and issued a full refund - and let me keep the book. So, a diligent Seller for sure - and well packaged and reasonable timing on shipping. Thank you for the refund, and as you suggested, I'll likely donate this volume and seek the hardcover.

Great transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive. Thanks, Joe

Excellent purchase. Was able to get all three items from the one seller. Seller was able to bundle all three items together into one package. Items as described and arrived in perfect condition. Good communication around shipping and tracking as items delayed and not able to be delivered by original estimate. Thanks to shipping updates I was able to track the items arriving before the extended delivery time. Thank you for making these items available on EBay.
