Gamers interact with more than 2,000 characters and climb through the ranks as an officer in the standalone expansion Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence -- Ascension. The action finds players in the midst of the Warring States period of Japan, where they take part in epic battles that result in the formation of clans, alliances, and the first Shogunate. In the new Officer Play mode gamers are given a small domain to rule, and they must protect it from invaders, listen to advisors, command soldiers on the battlefield, and perform tasks for their Lord to increase their status.<br><br>As a Retainer, players must occasionally head into battle at the request of their Daimyo, but they also use the new Civic Development System to create a new town. Gamers can alter the land to fit their needs, and build more than 40 different kinds of facilities to help the growth of their domain. Castle Lords also must take orders from their Daimyo, but they have greater mission variety, and more options to develop their lands, while Daimyo gameplay finds players controlling their Castle Lords, forming provinces, and engaging in diplomacy. Ascension also features new full-scale siege and naval battles, with players holing up in a variety of castles and using tunnels and cannons to destroy their enemies.
