This open-world beat 'em up for the PlayStation 3 lets you craft weapons, meet with fellow survivors, and deal with all the threats of the zombie apocalypse.Published by Capcom and developed by Blue Castle Games, this sequel to "Dead Rising" had a release date of 2010. It is a sequel to the first release, also from Capcom, and had creative input from the original game's team. In this release, you play as Chuck Greene, a former motocross champion with a flair for handyman craftsmanship. He takes on the walking zombies who plague the streets of Fortune City, based on real life Las Vegas, to keep himself and his daughter safe.Up to 7,000 zombies are on the open streets in the game at any one time. You don't have to deal with each one individually, but you can easily mow them down, plow through them, or punch your way to victory. Much like the first game, "Dead Rising" lets you use almost anything in the environment as a weapon to keep yourself safe. You can also custom manufacture your own gear by collecting items around the city. Dynamite, hand grenades, and dual-wielding chainsaws are among the specialized arsenal Chuck can create. You gain prestige points as they make the zombies truly dead while becoming more powerful in the process, ultimately getting access to better weapons. Prestige points let you level up, get stronger, and learn new combos to help survive against the zombie horde. The hungry zombies aren't your only problem in "Dead Rising," however. Survivors gone rogue and violent lay in wait to sabotage Chuck's efforts. These bosses, called "psychopaths", have their own stories and ambitions. It's up to you to put a stop to their reign of terror and thwart their plans."Dead Rising 2" offers players the option for co-op playing, supporting up to four players. The multiplayer mode in "Dead Rising 2" is based on an in-game reality TV show called "Terror is Reality." Each player is a contestant on the show and must struggle to survive. Innovative weapon designs are at play in this mode, where ordinary objects are turned into lethal tools of destruction to kill. This includes combining items to make unusual creations, like strapping a lawnmower to a 2x4 to make a Porta Mower. There are three mini-games in multiplayer mode: Zomboni, Bounty Hunter, and Stand Up Zomedy. There is also the "Slicecycle" mode, which lets you drive through swathes of undead and hack them to pieces. You gain money from participating and winning in multiplayer mode, which leads to participation points.The Dead Rising series version brings out your inner zombie hero and takes the full limits off your imagination. Understandably, "Dead Rising 2" for the PS3 is rated M for blood and gore, intense zombie violence, language, sexual themes, and the use of alcohol.
