Night, as a creature of the Wild, cannot enter a place of civilization, and she could follow Aaron no further. She was forced to stop at the town limit and used her abilities to create a reality-warping plague called a Blight that slowly moved into the city, transforming everything and everyone in it in terrible ways. Arron ultimately escaped, but most of the town's residents died from the Blight's effects. Those few who survived were changed horribly by the experience. Now, Night has found her quarry again, only this time Arron flees into an office building, another civilized place where Night cannot go. As before, Night - standing at the edge of the building's parking lot - creates a Blight that moves toward and into the office building, creating havoc inside.
