It solves a unique problem of having excessive length between the socket and a torque wrench. The lower stack height helps maintain control of the part when applying torque. Only fixing the overly secure retention at the ball detent makes it hard to remove from the wrench and adding a second magnet to maintain secure retention of the socket would make this flawless. This 781 B/C adapter is very nicely finished and has a tight fit on a 5-75 ft.lb. Icon torque wrench and the Birzman Hollotech ll CNC steel 44mm 16 notch bottom bracket tool; the bold label and clean matte finish is easy on the eye vs oxide or thick chrome options.
