Product Information

Each One Believing is a revealing, access-all-areas account of life on the road with Paul McCartney. Filled with photographs never before published and insider details, Each One Believing takes you behind the scenes for an exclusive look into a private world. Based on Paul McCartney's most celebrated tour since The Beatles, it weaves Paul's own personal reflections -- along with those of his wife, Heather, his band, and his crew -- together with hundreds of dynamic images by the tour's official photographer, Bill Bernstein, showing both Paul's public appearances and the quiet, one-on-one moments. What drives him to perform? What does it feel like to sing the songs that havetouched so many of our lives? This remarkable journey takes us from New York in the days following 9/11, when Paul wrote Freedom ; across North America, Europe, and Japan; to his historic show in Moscow's Red Square, "because, having written ' Back in the USSR ', I wanted to go there and play that." Poignant and candid, funny and illuminating, Each One Believing is a road trip unlike any other.

Reviews
Few people can aspire to the level of rock royalty inhabited by Sir Paul McCartney, and that's part of makes this behind-the-scenes glimpse of road life so interesting. Official McCartney photographer Bernstein's luscious shots chronicle the former Beatle's well-received 2003 world tour, starting with rehearsals in a Los Angeles hangar and wrapping with a homecoming in Liverpool. Included are dozens of interviews and snatches of dialogue from crew, chefs, technicians, and the band. A standout: a transcript of rehearsals for the first-ever duet between McCartney and Beach Boy Brian Wilson. - USA Today In 2002-2003, former Beatle McCartney went on a world tour that Billboard named "Tour of the Year" during which he performed before two million people. This sumptuous coffee-table-size book offers an intimate if hagiographic record of that tour and is distinguished both by more than 100 vibrant photos (most in full color) by Bill Bernstein, official photographer of the tour, and by extensive commentary from McCartney (as well as by excellent arrangement by Caroline Grimshaw, who, according to the acknowledgments page, "selected, organized and edited material extracted from film and interview transcripts... [and] designed the book"). The book opens with McCartney's rousing appearance at an all-star concert in Manhattan on October 30, 2001, to raise money for 9/11 victims. Then comes the tour, highlighted by several remarkable concerts, most notably one outside the Kremlin attended by President Putin (who told McCartney that, when he was growing up, Beatles music "was like a gulp of freedom") and one in Rome attended by half a million fans. The text consists primarily of interview extracts, snippets of conversation among band members and unsigned scene-setting paragraphs and (often extensive) photo captions; there's much fascinating info about the logistics of putting on a massive tour, from choosing personnel to preparing the right food ("nothing with a face" by order of vegetarian McCartney) and song selection. The primary attraction, though, is McCartney's words, which range from sentimental to playful and reveal a man as happy with his work and life as his many fans will be with this clean-cut, jolly book. - Publishers Weekly, Few people can aspire to the level of rock royalty inhabited by Sir Paul McCartney, and that's part of makes this behind-the-scenes glimpse of road life so interesting.
