The Tascam US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface is a versatile piece of recording gear you can take anywhere. It turns your laptop computer into a portable recording studio by providing input ability for acoustic and electronic instruments, vocals, recorded and digital music. The Tascam US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface provides a four-input, four-output 24-bit 96 kHz audio interface and a 16-channel MIDI interface. It is an ideal companion to any desktop or laptop based digital recording setup. The Tascam US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface does not require any power other than the USB connection to your computer, so you can use it anywhere without needing an external outlet. The MIC IN jacks provide phantom power to condenser microphones. This device features analog input signals (L, R), allowing you to use the unit to capture recordings on analog technology such as records or cassette tapes and record the files to your computer. You can input analog signals at the same time as digital input signals (L, R) to mix sounds from analog and digital technology on a new recording. The Tascam US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface also has two built in XLR mic/line inputs (balanced) and two built in 1/4” phone mic/line inputs (balanced/unbalanced). You can use the R channel 1/4” phone inputs to allow direct electric guitar or bass input. Change the input between balanced or unbalanced, depending on whether you have a microphone or guitar plugged into the port. The interface also contains stereo digital input and output jacks. Listen to your recording through the unbalanced stereo line output (RCA connector) and headphone output. The Tascam US-144 USB Audio MIDI input and output ports send and accept MIDI data. MIDI is a communications protocol that allows music files to be manipulated freely, allowing you to create music beyond the boundaries and limitations of physical instruments with human players. The Tascam US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface functions as a Direct Monitor. You can monitor the Tascam US-144 USB Audio/Midi Interface recording input with zero latency. The Tascam US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface contains both Mac OS drivers and Windows OS drivers. Install the drivers using a CD-ROM. When Mac or Windows drivers need to be updated to a new version, you can find them easily on the Tascam website. It is easy to monitor and vary the US-144’s settings using the Control Panel on your computer. The control panel allows you to adjust the Digital Output Format, the Sample Clock Source, and the Audio Performance. The Digital Output Format adjustment lets you chose AES/EBU or S/PDIF as the digital output format, according to your software needs. You can use an XLR connector for AES/EBU and an adapter that converts between digital audio RCA and digital audio XLR connectors. Adjusting the Sample Clock Source may be desirable for split second editing. If your recording project takes a lot of processing power, you can use the Audio Performance adjustment to introduce a delay when monitoring the input signal. This protects the integrity of your recording.
