Part One, America Taken By Surprise - 1941, uses a combination of elements including archival, newsreel and military footage to recount the story of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941. Part Two, Attack and Counterattack - 1941-43 witnesses Pearl Harbor pushing the United States into full-fledged offensive conflict with attacks on Guadalcanal, Tarawa, the Solomon Islands and many other targets. Part Three, Victory in the Pacific - 1944-45 witnesses American troops turning the tide of war at such locales as the Philippines, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Tinian, Saipan and Okinawa. Part Four, Crucial Turning Points, follows the story of 15 battles that turned the tide of World War II, utilizing such elements as archival footage of battles, rare color film, and declassified files.
