Reviews
"This book will break your heart--and then, against all odds, mend it again. Such a gentle fantasy is rare; such an evocation of our need to grow, to be free, to become our best selves, is rarer still. In cheering for Ivan and his friends, we cheer for our own humanity and our own possibilities. Read this." --Gary D. Schmidt, National Book Award finalist, Okay for Now , on the English-language edition, "A beautifully written, intelligent, and brave book. You will never look at the relationship of humans and animals in the same way again. Quite simply, this story is life-changing." -Patricia MacLachlan, Newbery Medalist, Sarah, Plain and Tall , on the English-language edition, "Utterly believable, this bittersweet story, complete with an author's note identifying the real Ivan, will inspire a new generation of advocates." -- Kirkus Reviews , starred review, on the English-language edition, "Applegate makes a powerful statement about the treatment of animals-especially those living in captivity-and reminds readers that all creatures deserve a safe place to call home. . . . A must-have." -School Library Journal, starred review, on the English-language edition, "Applegate makes a powerful statement about the treatment of animals--especially those living in captivity--and reminds readers that all creatures deserve a safe place to call home. . . . Synopsis
Winner of the 2013 Newbery Medal and a #1 New York Times bestseller, this stirring and unforgettable novel from renowned author Katherine Applegate celebrates the transformative power of unexpected friendship. Inspired by the true story of a captive gorilla known as Ivan, this illustrated novel is told from the point of view of Ivan himself. Having spent 27 years behind the glass walls of his enclosure in a shopping mall, Ivan has grown accustomed to humans watching him. He hardly ever thinks about his life in the jungle. Instead, Ivan occupies himself with television, his friends Stella and Bob, and painting. But when he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from the wild, he is forced to see their home, and his art, through new eyes. El único e incomparable Iván is a strong Common Core title that features these important strands and standards: first-person narrative; author's use of literary devices (personification, imagery); story elements (plot, character development, perspective). The English-language edition has sold over 1 million copies., Iv n es un poderoso pero tranquilo gorila que vive en el centro comercial Gran Circo. - c***h (3)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufThe book is in perfect condition and came quickly! Unfortunately, I canceled the order within minutes of ordering it so I could purchase SEVERAL copies of the book for a book club. I received a message stating that the seller would not cancel the order. This has never happened to me on ebay. The seller/company lost this extra sale, and now I have to find another seller to purchase more copies of the book. It was disappointing and didn't make good business sense.
