Ian Armour's A History of Eastern Europe, 1740-1918: empires, nations and modernisation isthe second edition of what he refers to in the preface as a 'general textbook' for a 'primarilyundergraduate readership'... I enjoyed it very much. It was thought-provoking and offered interesting analyses of issues which remain important today.
