There is a metal surface to conduct heat and a scoop to pull and push air under the laptop effectively. It really feels like a laptop cooler instead of just a fan blowing hot air into my table like other designs. It has a speed setting and is no louder than my laptop fans so I'm not distracted. Will definitely buy again for other laptops.
