Synopsis
The role of women in the Christian Church has been the subject of heated debate in recent years. This July the Church of England's General Synod vote approving the ordination of women bishops announced a new era for women in the church, ushered in after almost 100 years of campaigning. In this powerful book Julia Ogilvy interviews twelve of the most notable Christian women of our time, providing a telling and at times shocking analysis of the situation today. The women - from the Dean of York and the Presiding Bishop in America to Helena Kennedy QC and Dr Elaine Storkey - share some of the pain, disappointment and hurt they have experienced and reflect on the impact of a patriarchal Church on the suffering of women across the world. Their stories are very different but they all share a remarkable faith, humility and determination to fulfil their own calling. Each one is an inspiration to women everywhere and provides a unique insight into the role of the leader in any profession.Contributors include: Lucy Winkett, Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Sheila Watson, Vivienne Faull, Jane Williams, Elaine Storkey, Sarah Coakley, Helena Kennedy, Alison Elliot, Tamsin Merchant, Katherine Jefferts Schori, and Chilton Knudsen., The role of women in the Christian Church has been the subject of heated debate in recent years. It was not always thus. In the New Testament and the Early Church women played a full part in Church life, often in positions of high office. As the Church of England has once again, by a wafer thin margin, refused to admit women bishops, Julia Ogilvy has interviewed twelve of the most notable Christian women of our time. Discussing their ambitions, their disappointments and often the rage and hurt they have experience at the hands of a patriarchal and often misogynistic organisation are: Revd Lucy Winkett, Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Sheila Watson, Vivienne Faull, Jane Williams, Dr Elaine Storkey, Professor Sarah Coakley, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, Dr Alisom Elliot, Revd Tamsin Merchant, Dr Katherine Jefferts Schori, and Rt Revd Chilton Knudsen. Exploring the history and theology of the treatment of women in the church, as well as analysing the situation today, this is above all a book of hope.

Horrible experience with a lying seller. Placed order on Aug. 8th. Immediately received a tracking number and thought, great fast shipper! A week later on the 15th I see that UPS still doesn’t even have the package. I reach out asking what is going on only to receive a message saying “rest assured the package left our facility on the 9th.” I told them UPS actually did not even have the package and did not get a follow up answer until this morning, Aug 18th with a new tracking # from USPS.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER! First of all they claim to be a U.S. company. They are not. My order took over two weeks to arrive & the DVD that was delivered was not in the Very Good condition it was advertised as. It came with a blade slash across the case & artwork. The inside piece holding DVD was broken prior to shipping & the DVD bounced around during shipping. The DVD itself was completely scratched up. Caveat emptor! Buyer beware!
