1Q 2P First-time author Bossert, who worked on projects executive-produced by Roy E. Disney (such as Fantasia 2000), attempts to introduce the world to the Roy Disney who was a "down-to-earth man [and] approachable" through personal stories and the vignettes of Roy's friends and associates. Bossert also credits Roy with reviving the Disney animation tradition and "single-handedly [revolutionizing] the animation business." While Bossert's goal is to illuminate the heart of the man who felt the Disney empire's mission was to "[touch] the heart and soul of guests' the world over," it falls short. Bossert begins by spending far too much time explaining the book's conception, admitting that he "bought a book on how to write a book"-a book which, perhaps, he neglected to read. Better editing on many fronts is needed to help refocus the author's efforts. The work's overall structure is confusing; instead of being organized in the temporal fashion of a biography, the work instead uses randomly selected vignettes from throughout the years to reveal aspects of Roy's character. This lack of structure causes the focus of the work to move from a tribute to Roy to a chronicle of the author's professional development under the tutelage of Mr. Disney. With the exception of a few sailing photos, pictures reveal little about Roy's personality. As it stands, public and school libraries expecting a formal biography of Roy E. Disney may be disappointed, instead experiencing only a peek into Roy's character.
