This biography of Isaac Newton, a revised edition written by Margaret J. Anderson, chronicles his life in 11 chapters. Each chapter reveals a different side of Newton's life, including his early life, later accomplishments, and difficult times. The book is well illustrated with pictures of Newton, his surroundings, his predecessors, his contemporaries, and future scientists in his field. A unique aspect of the volume is that it lists a series of experiments that students can perform to sharpen their understanding of a number of Newton's scientific theories: Newton's rings, illustrating the color of light, the inverse-square law, and the laws of gravity. The book also lists a chronology of Newton's life and times, extensive chapter notes, a glossary of terms used throughout the publication, a list of references and Internet addresses, and an index. This book would be most suitable for students in the fifth grade and for ages 10 and up. It could be used in an English class to discuss the arrangement of a biography as a writing style and would also be appropriate for use in a science class to discuss the various scientific theories of Sir Isaac Newton.
