The white shelves look like white wood. Soft gold outline which is what my decorating choice is at the moment. Happy with my purchase, arrived quickly. Nothing to complain about whatsoever. My husband put it together while we laid it on the kitchen floor sideways and I held the shelves for him. The screws are gold as well. I’m 5’7 it’s just a few inches shorter than me
