In an age before overnight delivery, the pushcarts of “rag-and-bone” men were a familiar sight on bustling city streets. Rag-and-bone peddlers rescued the discarded debris of an increasingly wasteful society, seeing value where others didn’t, and found new life for the leftovers of careless city dwellers. In so doing, rag-and-bone men became early practitioners of sustainability and efficient reuse.
