Cullasja Outdoors was born from our passion for the mountains and rivers that surround us here in western North Carolina. Formerly known as C.M.E.C. Outdoors, we chose a new name that reflects our roots more deeply. The word Cullasja comes from the Cherokee word meaning "Honey Locust Place". The name refers to the abundance of honey locust trees found in the area, a native species from which Native Americans would extract a natural sweetener. The word is associated with the Cullasaja River and Gorge in North Carolina's Nantahala National Forest, the very place that inspires our love for the outdoors.
