  Work much better than mesh filter at removing the fine grits, at the same time preserves the oils unlike the paper/cloth filters. It is a great compromise for those looking for full-bodied coffee and don't mind a little bit of grits. I use it with the Hario Next syphon and it works beautifully, and cleaning is so much easer than the mesh/cloth filter. So in my opinion, unless you want the absolute clearest coffee (then you should stick with paper or cloth), this is the way to go.
