  I purchased a lovely 12th plate American Daguerreotype from around 1847-8. If you purchase cased images on Ebay, it's best to know what you're doing because most sellers are essentially clueless. This item wasn't identified as a 12th plate, the year was unmentioned, nor was the country. I've seen cased images identified as a Daguerreotype-ambrotype though there's no such thing. Caveat emptor. A good dealer and transaction nonetheless.
