My name is Tony Monroe I was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota. I'm an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. I graduated from Hot Springs High School and studied art and Lakota culture in South Dakota. I create Northern Plains artwork from hides, stone, leather, and wood. I learned the basics of bead working, weaponry, sculpting and pipe making from traditional and contemporary artisans in my family circle. I'm a fifth generation pipe maker and artist. My sculptures are made from a variety of materials such as pipestone, bone, wood and alabaster. I creates small objects like fetishes to large pieces than can weigh hundreds of pounds. My work can be seen in many galleries and museums across the country.
