I have written three books called Paper Money Messages which are a result of my journeys over the past twenty years to more than thirty countries, including some of the poorest countries in the world. Some of these trips were mission trips to assist Christian organizations in water and sanitation improvements for schools, orphanages, and hospitals. My interest in paper money began on my first trip when I began to collect local currencies on these diverse travels. Visiting countries that had gone through economic and political turmoil made me question the true value of paper money. In addition, I learned that the imagery on a nation’s currency is often a significant reflection of that nation’s history and value system. I also took a key interested in the collection of the German notgeld (emergency money) because it is a reflection of the human reaction during politically and economically challenging times and they contain much Christian history due to the protestant reformation.
