LITTLE CHILDREN - Oh Dear Ms Winslet!
7 von 8 finden das hilfreich What a shame to see the talented Ms Winslet in such a terrible film!
This was on my film rental wish list for ages as it had received many accolades and award nominations and I really wanted to see it.
Sadly, it's an absolute stinker! I had no idea what it was about prior to rental, but for me it was a whole 2 hours 10 minutes wasted watching it which I will never get back! I struggled throughout the duration of this film which was tedious at best and an utter mish-mash at worst!
It has an annoying "Desperate Houswives"/"Pushing Daisies" type narrative throughout which sometimes is a good job because the film goes nowhere very, very slowly and is another of these "worthy" types of film where we are asked to question our preconceptions of paedophiles and expected to have sympathy for them.
I don't know why the talented Ms Winslett touched this with a bargepole knowing its spurious content - she is a good actress wasted in such rubbish.
Again, as in my reviews of equally highly regarded films, I cannot understand the praise/nominations heaped upon this particular offering. Surely any parent would feel like this?
There are no redeeming features in this film although the blokes may like seeing the lovely Kate with her kit off, but otherwise, save your money and just don't bother!

Palindromes DVD
9 von 11 finden das hilfreich This film is a thinly veiled disguise to justify paedophilia. I cannot see any way it can be described as a "comedy" and I suspect that anyone who apparently enjoyed the film including the newspaper reviewers who raved over it in glowing terms do not, CANNOT have children. It must be a case of the Emporer's New Clothes and it needs someone ordinary to say that this film is SICK, SICK, SICK! How can a film get past the British Board of Film Censors with just a 15 when it depicts a 12 year old girl having sex with a much older man and seen to be enjoying it? In my opinion, it should not have been allowed to be released at all. We all know paedophiles exist but why was it necessary to make this film where the sympathy lies with the paedophile - suggesting that the victims of their abuse might actually enjoy or even cultivate this type of relationship? Don't give these perverts any excuses! And what on Earth were the parents of the child actresses thinking in allowing their children to act in this drivel - particularly the poor child having to act with a grown man grinding about (albeit under the covers) on top of her? It's tantamount to child abuse! I would suggest the pound signs must have caused a serious abberation of judgement not only for the parents, but also to the actresses Ellen Barkin and Jennifer Jason Leigh who must have been particulary strapped for cash at the time.
Please, please, PLEASE do not watch/buy this film - it is revolting and I wished I had never been lulled into thinking it would be an amusing little tale by believing the rubbish on the cover. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
It doesn't even deserve to be rated minus 5 stars!

Happiness? Boringness more like!
6 von 7 finden das hilfreich If you like whiney, Woody Allenesque ensembles, then this film may be worth wasting 2 1/2 hours of your time on.
I only rented it in the interest of research - having been quite frankly appalled by another of Solondz's offerings - 'Palindromes' - I wanted to see if this film was as bad/sick. As in the former, this film again touches on the subject of paedophilia - although much more briefly. One of the leading, adult male characters ends up drugging his whole family so that he can have his way with his young son's best friend. It does seem to be one of the director's most focussed upon topics!
Quite apart from being the most tedious and boring film ever, there were other elements that I found particularly offensive dressed up as 'comedy' that crossed the boundaries into indecency and downright nastiness. The last scene for me as a parent and pet owner was particularly unpalatable.
I also watched 'Welcome to the Dollhouse' from the same director and, whilst it was not quite so distasteful as the other two, you have to wonder about the use of the child actors in all of Solondz's films which I find quite disturbing.
Don't bother with any of Solondz's films - I have only had my opinions confirmed and strengthened by watching them - and that is that they serve no purpose, they are not entertaining and really didn't need to be made.
